THE CHALLEGE

Retrofit and Upgrade

A multi-national freight rail agency facility had to replace aging R22 condenser units and evaporator coil for their office depot. (HVAC) industry is in the process of changing over from ozone-depleting R-22 refrigerant to environmentally friendlier R-410A refrigerant. The manufacture and import of complete new HVAC systems using R-22 has been discontinued, and  parts for R-22 systems are getting obsolete. HVAC contractors are now struggling to complete repair work due to lack of parts for these systems. Converting an R-22 HVAC system to R-410A is a major undertaking and is not a do-it-yourself project.

Conversion requires replacing the R-22 evaporator coils and condenser units with a system designed to run with R-410A. The copper lines connecting the components also must be replaced, The new copper pipes must handle the higher pressures of R-410A.
